Hello, how are you doing?
You know the neighbor’s daughter married away? Can you believe it rained yesterday in the mid of November? It got pretty cold. I pestered your mom to cook pakodas and tea but she’s getting lethargic these days. There was strong tea with a fair share of black-pepper and cardamom, the way she prefers, but we had to make do with biscuits. Your aunts’ last kid, the one you saw born, got admission into college. She’s grown really big.
I called you just to hear that you’re okay. I wouldn’t know what I would say or do if you said you are not. Not much probably besides listening to you and wishing you well. As mundane as my phone calls may be to you, there’s nothing more exciting to me especially on days when you are halfway around the globe.
If I could only call when I had interesting stories to tell, months would go by without hearing from you. For me, that’s too much to bear. The last exciting thing I did was getting chillies for free while doing groceries. That was a couple of weeks back. Before I retired, there would be some things, some jokes, news or updates that were fun to hear, some of those you’d enjoy too. I miss those water cooler gossips in the office. These days the most exciting topic is weather and some of the constructions that’s going on around which you vehemently hate.
I called just to hear you. It calms down the unrest that stirs up within me when it’s been long without hearing or seeing you. Either come home or I am going to bother you with my mundane phone calls.
